Details
Bifen IT is manufactured by Control Solutions Inc. and is 7.9% Bifenthrin suspended concentrate insecticide designed for broad-spectrum control of a wide range of insects. Bifen IT's formula contains a synthetic pyrethroid that works by interfering with the target insect's nervous system.
Bifen IT is a versatile product that can be mixed into a foam, injected into concrete slabs, or sprayed as a cracks and crevice treatment. Bifen IT is effective against some of the hardest to control insects, such as termites, cockroaches, fleas, mosquitoes and carpenter ants.
Although Bifen IT Insecticide does not provide a quick knockdown, it does provide a long-lasting residual to keep pests from making their way indoors. When combating crawling, wood damaging, or stinging insects, Bifen IT is a great weapon to have on hand.
Tools Needed
To use Bifen IT you will need either a hose-end sprayer, handheld pump sprayer, backpack sprayer, or skid sprayer.
For small household jobs, we recommend a handheld 1-gallon pump sprayer or a 4-gallon backpack sprayer. If Bifen IT is being used for termite control by trenching, a shovel or dirt removal tool and a wheelbarrow will be needed.
How To Use
For General Treatments
-
Step 1: Determine how much Bifen IT you will need for your application by first calculating the square footage of the area you wish to treat. To do this, measure and multiply the area's length times the width (length x width = square footage). Bifen IT can be mixed at a rate between 0.18 to 1 fl. oz. per gallon of water to treat 1,000 sq. ft. The mix rate depends on the level of infestation and the targeted insect.
-
Step 2: In a handpump sprayer, fill up the spray tank half way with water and the add Bifen IT at the appropriate rate based on your calculations. Add the rest of the needed water to the spray tank and mix or agitate well. It is suggested to shake or mix a pump sprayer periodically to ensure an even application and to ensure the sprayer does not get clogged.
-
Step 3: Make crack and crevice treatments indoors, and broadcast sprays or cracks and crevice treatments outdoors. Keep all people and pets off treated areas until dry.
-
Step 4: When used as an insecticide spray, quarterly re-applications can be made for preventative measures.
For Termite Trench Treatments
-
Step 1: To create a trench around your home foundation's perimeter, remove soil with a shovel or other appropriate tool, and place the dirt in a wheelbarrow. Dig the trench 6 inches wide and 6 inches deep.
-
Step 2: For pre-construction horizontal barrier treatments, mix Bifen IT at the rate of 1 oz. per gallon of water and apply under concrete slab at a rate of 1 finished gallon of solution per 10 square feet. When trench treating your entire home perimeter, add 4 gallons of 0.06% diluted solution per 10 linear feet. Mix the Bifen IT solution well and then pour the solution into the dug trench every 10 linear feet. Pour the Bifen IT slowly so that it evenly disperses through the entire trench.
-
Step 3: Once the entire perimeter trench is treated with the Bifen IT solution, place the soil back into the trench.
-
Step 4: You should then use a handpump sprayer to create a 1 gallon solution of Bifen IT and treat the soil you used to fill the trench back up. The residual effects of Bifen IT will last for up to 5 years.
Where To Use
Bifen IT can be uses as a cracks and crevice treatment for various insects found indoors around baseboards, wall voids around plumbing, closets, doors, window and other areas. It cannot be used as a broadcast treatment for indoor areas.
For treating various insects outdoors, it can be applied to turfs, sports fields. lawns, flowerbeds, barn yards, perimeters or homes or commercial buildings, under crawl spaces, around doorways, window sills, exterior wall voids like weep holes, around and under porches, and many other label approved areas. For termites, Bifen IT can be injected under slabs or poured in trenches.
When To Use
Bifen IT can be used as a preventative treatment by creating an insecticidal barrier as a spray to keep insects and various bug from getting indoors. It can also be used as a treatment once targeted insects have been spotted.
Apply Bifen IT on warm, calm days when wind speeds are low to minimize drift and rain is not in the immediate forecast. When applying Bifen IT indoors, we recommend to time your application for when the treated area(s) will not be occupied by people or pets for at least a couple hours so that the solution has time to dry.
Safety Information
Bifen IT Insecticide is safe to use around children, pets, and livestock when it is applied according to the product label. Stay off of treated areas until completely dry. Always wear the proper personal protective equipment (PPE) when mixing or making applications.
Special Considerations
It is possible that target insects develop a resistance to Bifen IT's active ingredient, Bifenthrin. If over time your applications seem to be less effective, switch out your insecticide treatment with a product that has a different active ingredient and mode of action.
For faster control of insect pests, we recommend mixing Bifen IT with an insect growth regulator (IGR) to target both insect adults and younger-staged insects.
