HIGH-FREQUENCY TREATMENTS

Timeless & Essential Skin Rejuvenation
Acne | Anti-Aging | Dry or Dehydrated Skin

High-Frequency is a popular skin care technique that is used to treat a variety of conditions, including acne management, enlarged pores, dry and dehydrated skins, aging skin showing fine lines and wrinkles and puffy or dark eyes.

To fully understand the concept of high-frequency, it is helpful to learn about the science behind its creation and the benefits it has when used on your skin.

The History

High-frequency, also known as the Tesla high-frequency current, was first developed in the late 1800s by renowned scientist Nikola Tesla. While it can be used in various ways, before the invention of “modern” antibiotics, it was largely used for medical purposes, such as the treatment of strep throat and other infections. Today, however, it is widely used by prestigious spas and professional salons as an important component of many skin care treatment regimens, procedures and programs. Its many benefits include treating acne, enlarged pores, fine lines and wrinkles, puffy eyes, dark under-eye circles, cellulite and, in some cases, thinning hair.

The Science

High-frequency facial machines function by using a glass high-frequency electrode to treat various contours of the face and body. When applied to the surface of the skin, a mild electrical current passes through the neon, or argon gas-filled glass electrode, causing it to emit a subtle glow and buzzing noise. Depending on the inert gas that the tube is filled with, the electrodes produce either a neon red/orange or violet/blue light. Traditionally, acne-prone skin is treated with violet and aging skin is treated with red, however, recent studies show that both are effective regardless of the skincare concern.

During the high-frequency treatment, enriched oxygen molecules are produced that create an anti-bacterial action and a “natural” thermal tissue warming. This reaction helps your blood vessels push away toxins, while the cells in your skin are enriched with nutrients and hydrating volume. This in turn creates an increase in blood circulation and cell renewal that supports increased levels of collagen and elastin. The skin is left feeling instantly energized and noticeably softer after just one treatment.

High-Frequency for Acne or Dry Aging Skins

High-frequency has proven to be effective on almost any skin lesion from acne and burns, to waxing procedures and cold sores. High-frequency facials are considered to be a safe, gentle and therapeutic approach to skin rejuvenation, quickly healing and restoring your skin’s health.

High-Frequency treatments can also increase skincare product absorption so that your skin gains the ultimate benefit from skincare serums and products.

High-Frequency Treatments were once considered timeless and essential in skin rejuvenating treatments by those in the skin care industry. Now, there are very few clinics or salons offering these treatments for today’s clients. In my opinion, it is a lack of understanding on behalf of the many therapists these days, more the shame, regarding the benefits of High-Frequency Treatments that have seen this effective and essential skin treatment disappear from available treatment modalities.

There are two (2) types of High-Frequency treatments, 1. Indirect Frequency and 2. Direct Frequency, each one delivering specific benefits dependent upon your skin type and any condition you may be suffering. Both treatments are delivered with the use of a High-Frequency machine that delivers low-current high-frequency alternating currents to the treatment area.

The benefits of a high-frequency facial are phenomenal. It offers a safe and gentle alternative to botox injections, chemical laser peels and other skin recovery procedures that may be more invasive.

INDIRECT FREQUENCY

(also known as Viennese Massage)

Best for DRY or DEHYDRATED or AGING Skin Types and for Enhanced Transdermal Product Delivery

INDIRECT High-Frequency is an effective treatment for those with Dry Skin or suffering Dehydration of the skin, aging including fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment delivers high-frequency current to the skin and underlying tissue – generating warmth within the skin and stimulating nerve endings. The dilation of the underlying vessels pushes away toxins, while the cells enjoy a feast of increased nutrients and hydrating volume. The result is an increase in blood circulation and cell renewal as well as increased production levels of collagen and elastin which soften and smooth away wrinkles, reduce pore size and improve overall skin texture whilst escalating trans-dermal delivery of skin care products to the underlying tissue.

Indirect High-Frequency Treatment

The INDIRECT treatment involves the client holding a grounding electrode attached to the High-Frequency Unit. Whilst holding the grounding electrode the therapist performs massage to the area being treated. The indirect high-frequency current travels through the client body and is drawn to the therapist’s hands, effectively allowing an exit for the current. It is usual to feel the warmth and sometimes even a slight tingling sensation at the point where the therapist’s hands are touching your skin. The treatment aids in increased blood circulation activates your sebaceous glands which produce sebum/oil on your skin and can improve your skin texture.

For Dry and Dehydrated Skin Types your therapist can apply active ingredient cosmeceutical products during the massage and the indirect high-frequency current will provide improved delivery to the skin tissue during this period of increased blood circulation.

Orange electrodes (containing Neon Gas) are generally used in the treatment of aging skin because they are said to direct more warmth to the treatment area which promotes blood circulation, encourages cellular turnover and improves product penetration.

When using indirect high frequency for anti-aging purposes, results can vary by individual and skin type, are gradual, and do not occur overnight! Although high frequency has been shown to produce an immediate and temporary lifting effect, the continued daily application can provide more cumulative long-term, lasting results.

DIRECT FREQUENCY

Best for ACNE, SEBORRHEA and OILY CONGESTED Problematic Skin Types

DIRECT High-Frequency provides benefits for those with blemish prone acne vulgaris, seborrhea and acneic type skin including Oily Congested, Problematic and Combination Skin Types. Unlike Indirect High-Frequency, this treatment does not involve the client holding the grounding electrode. Both the client and the therapist must have removed all jewellery and metal on themselves so as not to attract the electrical current to that item.

Direct High-Frequency Treatment

A layer of skin serum will be applied to the area to be treated and a light gauze placed over the treatment area. Our skin specialist will now move the electrode in slow circular patterns with the electrode held just above the skin. The small gap between the electrode and the skin allows a process called “sparking” to occur. You may hear a low volume crackling as the electrode gas ignites and forms pure oxygen (ozone) which is then directly infused with the skin, killing any bacteria whilst drying and healing the skin. It is during this process that you may feel a very slight tingling sensation to the skin and you may even be able to smell the purity of the ozone.

Traditionally, the violet electrode (containing Argon Gas) is used by skin professionals to treat acne-prone skin. An extremely small amount of ultra-violet light is emitted when the violet electrode makes contact with the skin. Such brief and low-level UV exposure is considered very safe (non-skin damaging) and provides excellent anti-bacterial and healing benefits.

By increasing skin metabolism, direct high-frequency ozone facials encourage healthy cell function and promote skin healing. This form of treatment promotes a natural cleansing and antibacterial action that helps treat existing acne and prevents the onset of new acne. Clients experiencing cystic acne will benefit greatly from the deep penetrating germicidal action of direct high frequency. The skin is left feeling instantly energised, rosy, firm, refreshed and noticeably softer – even after just one treatment.

The enriched oxygen molecules produced by high-frequency machines are safe and have been proven to be effective in helping to heal and restore the skin’s health. Common areas of treatment include the face, neck and scalp but high-frequency can be used on the entire body including the back and chest.
