    Frequently Asked Questions
    • How to locate the drive pulley on a conveyor belt?

If you have a Fluent Conveyors machine, the drive pulley is typically the pulley at the end of the conveyor that material is moving towards. If your belt moves in both directions this will be at the end that pulls the largest loads or the belt runs in the direction the most.

If you have a Fluent Conveyors Package Handling conveyor then the drive pulley can be in the middle of the conveyor or at the end. The drive pulley will have a chain and sprocket on one side of it that is attached to a motor. If it is a vanline conveyor it will have a motorized pulley so the drive pulley will be the largest diameter pulley in the drive in the middle of the conveyor.

If you have a conveyor that is manufactured by someone other than Fluent Conveyors there are several ways to locate the drive pulley. First, the drive pulley must be driven. This means it will be near where the power is routed to the conveyor. Next it will be driven so it will either have a motor/gearbox mounted directly to the pulley or attached to it via chain and sprocket (or timing belt). Other considerations to help narrow this down are as follows; the drive pulley is usually at the end of the conveyor that the material is moving towards, the drive pulley is usually coated in lagging (rubber) to increase friction between it and the belt, the drive pulley is typically the largest pulley in the drive system.

Please contact Fluent Conveyors if you have any further questions.

    • How many types of conveyor pulleys are there?

There are thousands of pulley options that all have a specific application for their needs. Fluent offers bulk handling head and tail pulleys for the waste and recycling industry.

Core pulley offerings include but are not limited to: Drum pulleys, mine duty, spiral drum, chevron pulley, winged tail pulleys and more.

If you have specific lagging patterns, thicknesses and crowning please contact our sales team.

    • What drives the conveyor belt?

Conveyor belts are driven by a motor, gearbox, shaft and either a pulley or sprockets. You will also find pneumatic conveyors.

    • How long will it take to deliver a replacement pulley?

Replacement pulley lead times vary depending on the complexity of the pulley as well.

The delivery timing will depend on the internal product load of our facility, access to materials for your pulley, bushing types etc.

Your sales representative will get you an approximation at the time of quote.
